In 2008, Etobicoke York Community Council approved the installation of speed humps on John Street, between Jane Street and Elm Street. The speed humps were installed in 2010, and the speed limit was reduced to 30 km/h. In 2014, John Street was under construction. Residents on the section of John Street between Pine Street and Elm Street requested that the speed humps not be reinstalled. In response, Etobicoke York Community Council requested that the City Clerk (Polling Registry Services) conduct a poll of residents on John Street, between Pine Street and Elm Street, to gauge support for reinstalling the speed humps.

The majority of respondents voted against reinstalling the speed humps and so they were not reinstalled. The speed limit remained at 30 km/h. A petition signed by residents of John Street, between Pine Street and Elm Street, has since been submitted to my office requesting that speed humps be approved for installation on this section of the street. On September 9, 2019 I held a community meeting to discuss the request to install speed humps on this section of John Street again. Prior to approving the reinstallation of speed humps on this section of John Street, a new poll should be conducted to gauge support for this initiative.
