On the agenda
As the city filed it
Tom Gribilas was a pillar of the Scarborough soccer community. In 1983, he co-founded the Olympic Flame Soccer Club and was its president, and the club's heart and soul, for the past 33 years. Under Tom's guidance, the Club won many league titles and tournaments, including provincial and Canadian championships. Tom was also involved in the creation of the Central Soccer League and a long-time Director of the Scarborough Soccer Association.

For 40 years, Tom tirelessly, and with little fanfare, volunteered countless time to the youth of Scarborough and East York and the sport of soccer. For his exceptional contributions, he was awarded the City of Scarborough Parks and Culture Award in 1993, a Government of Canada Volunteer Award and the City of Toronto Award of Merit in 2001, and the Ontario Soccer Association Centre Circle Award for Meritorious Service in 2013. Tom touched the lives of many young people who grew up playing soccer. His dedication to his sport and to the youth who play it was unrivalled, and his loss in June of last year at the age of 78 is felt throughout the soccer community. Therefore, it is fitting that the soccer pitch at Ellesmere Community Centre be named "Tom Gribilas Field" in honour of his dedication to the youth of our City.
