Whether a child or adult, knowing how to swim is an important skill. In addition to the safety benefits of being able to swim, swimming is a fun way to keep active and maintain overall fitness. In recent weeks, I have received calls from Toronto residents who enrolled themselves or a child in one of the City's spring swim programs only to be notified the day before class was to begin that it had been cancelled due to a shortage of instructors.

Swim programs are in high demand; we must ensure maximum use of the limited pool space we have to deliver these important programs. This matter is urgent as it is important that the shortage of swim instructors be addressed in advance of the summer 2019 session.
