for George Gooderham Mitchell of Toronto's prominent Gooderham family. The property is currently owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto and used as a vocational school and residence. Following research and evaluation, it has been determined that the property at 226 St. George Street meets Ontario Regulation 9/06, the provincial criteria prescribed for municipal designation under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. Community Planning staff are currently reviewing a Site Plan Approval application to permit a four-storey addition at the rear of the existing listed heritage property, for which the owner has agreed to enter into a Heritage Easement Agreement with the City of Toronto. Properties on the Heritage Register will be conserved and maintained in accordance with the Official Plan Heritage Policies. Designation enables City Council to review alterations to the site, enforce heritage property standards and maintenance, and refuse demolition.
