Nominations for Appointment to the Board of Management of the Ralph Thornton Community Centre

The following member was nominated by the members at the June 12 2019 Annual General Meeting to fill a one-year term effective June 2019: Sharon Ho Ed Nagy The above-noted term will expire in 2020. The Board of Management of Ralph Thornton Community Centre hereby recommends that Toronto and East York Community Council appoint, at pleasure of Council, the above-noted members for the terms of office ending on the dates indicated, and until successors are appointed. The nomination and appointment of these individuals complies with the City of Toronto's Public Appointments Policy and the relevant provisions of the Relationship Framework for Board-Operated Community Centres, as well as the Ralph Thornton Community Centre's Constitution and By-laws. Nominees whose terms will expire at the June 2020 Annual General Meeting will be welcomed to stand for re-election at the Annual General Meeting along with any other qualified candidates. A chart highlighting current and proposed appointments to the Ralph Thornton Community Centre's Board of Management is provided at the end of this communication for your information and assistance. Background The Ralph Thornton Community Centre Board of Management began searches for suitable candidates to fill normal rotation vacancies in February 2019 (prior to the June 2019 Annual General Meeting). Notices inviting qualified applicants were sent to all current Ralph Thornton Community Centre members, subscribers, partner/stakeholder agencies and organizations, user groups, and local political representatives. The pre-Annual General Meeting process included postings in local newsletters. Additionally, notices were posted on the Ralph Thornton Community Centre's web and social media sites, and in all public areas of the Ralph Thornton Community Centre and the local library branch (which is located in the Ralph Thornton Community Centre). This opportunity was also posted on the City of Toronto's Appointments website. Existing board members were also encouraged to distribute the invitation via their personal networks. Applications were received and reviewed by the Board's Nominating Committee and interviews were held to identify qualified individuals with a range of experiences and interests relevant to the Ralph Thornton Community Centre's mandate and good governance practices. Appointments to the Ralph Thornton Community Centre Board of Management are a matter for which the Community Council has been delegated authority from City Council to make a final decision, provided that the recommendations do not vary from the Public Appointments Policy. The nominees are qualified to serve on the Board of Management pursuant to the relevant provisions of the City of Toronto By-law (Chapter 25 of the former City of Toronto Municipal Code), the Relationship Framework for Board-Operated Community Centres, the Public Appointments Policy, and the Ralph Thornton Community Centre's Constitution and Procedure By-Law. The nominees are all Ralph Thornton Community Centre members who are over 18 years of age and all but two live in the Ralph Thornton Community Centre catchment area. As required, the majority of Board members live in the catchment area. None of the nominees are employees of the City of Toronto or of any of its agencies, boards, commissions, or corporations, nor are they serving on another City agency, board, commission, or corporation.
