City Council on January 29, 2020, adopted the following: 1. City Council direct the General Manager, Parks, Forestry and Recreation to report to the Infrastructure and Environment Committee on the feasibility and process of increasing the contravention inspection fee, Chapter 441, Fees and Charges, where a second contravention inspection is required and undertaken in order to determine compliance with Municipal Code Chapter 813, Trees, or Chapter 658, Ravine and Natural Feature Protection.

2. City Council request the Director, Urban Forestry, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, to report back on strategies and resources necessary to get to 50 percent of initial inspections completed within 24 hours.

This report respond to the motions adopted by City Council at its meeting on October 2, 2019 directing the General Manager, Parks, Forestry and Recreation to submit a report to the Infrastructure and Environment Committee outlining the number of inspections, fees, orders and summons related to the enforcement of tree protection, and to include recommendations on how to better utilize existing tools for tree protection and to report on strategies to improve the average response time to reports of possible contraventions.
