Nominations for Appointment to the Board of Management of The 519

Elections were held via secret ballot at the Annual General Meeting 2019. The 519 Membership elected these candidates for appointment by Toronto and East York Community Council. These elected appointments meet the requirements under the City of Toronto's Public Appointments Policy including the requirement to be 18 years of age, a resident of the City of Toronto and they are expected in the role of a Board member to provide: - a variety of perspectives, reflecting the diversity of the community; - an understanding of diverse neighbourhoods and communities within the catchment area; - knowledge and understanding of community and public service; - specific skills and expertise that contribute to good governance; - support for the mission and mandate of The 519; and - strong communication and decision making skills. In addition, the Board of Management is expected to offer a strong mix and balance of skills, knowledge and experience while reflecting the diversity of the communities The 519 serves. Each year the Board's Nominations Committee establishes priority recruitment targets as a mechanism to ensure that we comply with the City of Toronto Public Appointments Policy and equip The 519 to achieve its overall mission. In June, 2019 the Board of The 519 approved the recruitment priorities for the 2019-2021 term of the Board. Priorities included continuing to advance the representation of: - Individuals from a cross-section of age groups; - Members of diverse racial and ethno-cultural communities; - Members from Indigenous communities; - Women; - Trans / Non-binary people; and - People with disabilities. Skill and Experience Priorities included deep understanding and demonstrated competencies in: - Philanthropy and fundraising; - Community services sector; - Community neighbourhood development / planning; - Strategic communications; and - Board leadership and development.
