Since the impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic, our frontline staff have been extremely overworked, as they go above and beyond to assist Long-Term Care Homes with their respective outbreaks. Now, more than ever, one of our most vulnerable populations, including seniors and hardworking staff in our Long-Term Care Homes, need support as transmission infection rates continue to rise. There is added concern with the new variant that has been detected and has become rampant in some of our Long-Term Care Homes.

We must do everything possible to protect the health and safety of our seniors, and staff who care for them, as we cannot afford to lose any more lives. The rate of infection is higher in privately-funded Long-Term Care homes. This Motion requests that the Federal and Provincial Governments provide enhanced funding resources to ensure proper assistance is provided to our seniors and frontline workers in Long-Term Care Homes by deploying the Canadian Armed Forces and Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps to the Long-Term Care Homes to assist with care and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as provide medical equipment, supplies, and personal protective equipment as needed.
