Anishnawbe Health Toronto is a health centre promoting traditional Indigenous practices recognizing that there is a need for a comprehensive approach to health care for the Indigenous community. Since 1989, Anishnawbe Health Toronto has been recognized and funded by the Ministry of Health as a community health centre. Anishnawbe Health Toronto has secured a brand new site in the West Don Lands at 425 Cherry Street as part of Block 10 in the West Don Lands precinct plan.

While Anishnawbe Health Toronto is not a public hospital under the Public Hospitals Act, it does provide similar primary care to a public hospital and receives annual funding from the same source, the Ministry of Health. Anishnawbe Health Toronto has benefitted from significant support from both the City's Planning Division and the Ministry of Health. The Corktown and West Don Lands communities have additionally shown support for this new development. Due to this support and approvals in-hand, Anishnawbe Health Toronto will finally achieve a long-awaited milestone date; construction of the ICHC commencing late March, 2021. The health centre has been required to pay $624,243.36 in development charges. Given their financing, it will be impossible for Anishnawbe Health Toronto to absorb this unexpected cost without a redesign and compromise to patient care space. This essential service is an asset not only to the neighbourhood, but to the Aboriginal community in the City.
