Proclaiming Bangladeshi Heritage Month and Independence Day of Bangladesh - by Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, seconded by Councillor Brad Bradford

This day is also marked with music, parades, fairs, and various other public and private gatherings held to celebrate the history and traditions of Bangladesh. March 26, 2021 marks the 50th Anniversary of Bangladesh's declaration of independence from Pakistan. By proclaiming the month of March as Bangladeshi Heritage Month and March 26 as Bangladeshi Independence Day, the City of Toronto honours the many significant contributions Bangladeshi Canadians have made and this landmark anniversary. Toronto stands with the thousands of newcomers who have made Toronto their home, and the generations of Bangladeshi-Canadian citizens who contribute so much to the cultural richness and diversity of our City, and who strengthen us socially, politically, culturally and economically. And as one of the world's most diverse cities, Toronto has become a model city where we respect and protect all religions, faiths and beliefs.
