City Council on November 9, 10 and 12, 2021, adopted the following: 1. City Council direct the City Manager and the General Manager, Economic Development and Culture, in conjunction with Heritage Toronto and the North York Historical Society, to work with community groups and other interested stakeholders and report to the February 2 and 3, 2022 City Council meeting with a work plan and budget to recognize and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the Township of North York.

As a political and social entity, North York has a transformative and rich history and is cause for celebration and reflection. It celebrates its 100th anniversary of incorporation in June, 2022. Originally an agricultural hub with scattered villages, its founding and development into one of Canada's most vibrant inner suburbs has changed the way we look at urban planning, economic and social justice, transit and land use.

North York has a colourful history across numerous disciplines including aviation, aerospace, the arts, parks, recreation, and transit. Through aircraft manufacturing and military readiness, the City played a crucial role in defeating Nazi Germany in the Second World War. As the home to the Sanofi Pasteur and Apotex pharmaceutical plants, among others, North York plays a role in developing medicines and vaccines that save millions of lives worldwide. North York also set the standard in expanding parkland in the face of intensive development, and developing a network of schools, hospitals and other institutions that set a world standard. In the aftermath of the Depression, despite its financial difficulties, unlike many other Ontario municipalities, North York never seized any homes or farms for non-payment of taxes. North York has been a true leader welcoming and settlement of newcomers to Canada from all over the world.

City Council direct the City Manager and the General Manager, Economic Development and Culture, in conjunction with Heritage Toronto and the North York Historical Society, to work with community groups and other interested stakeholders and report to the February 2 and 3, 2022 City Council meeting with a work plan and budget to recognize and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the Township of North York.
