The City of Toronto currently uses multiple methods for collecting speed data. Our 187 mobile Watch Your Speed signs and 50 Automated Speed Enforcement units are examples of systems that independently collect speed data. The Toronto Police Service also collects data on the speeds of vehicles. Through this Motion, we are hoping to further understand the management of speed data in the City, how it is used, and how City Staff can better use this data to prioritize the implementation of Vision Zero, and improve safety.

We are also seeking recommendations from City of Toronto Transportation Staff regarding options to accelerate the roll-out of Vision Zero through the 2022 budget process, to improve safety for the most vulnerable users of our transportation system - pedestrians, school children, older adults and cyclists.
