City Council on November 9, 10 and 12, 2021, adopted the following: 1. City Council reduce the speed limit along the following roadway from 50 kilometres per hour to 40 kilometres per hour: a. O'Connor Drive from Coxwell Avenue to St Clair Avenue East. 2. City Council direct the General Manager, Transportation Services, to install relevant speed limit signage along the roadway outlined in Part 1 above.

This Motion proposes a speed limit reduction for O'Connor Drive from Coxwell Avenue to St. Clair Avenue East. The Motion is being brought forward in tandem with a Motion from Councillor Fletcher to reduce the speed limit on O'Connor Drive west of Coxwell in Ward 14 Toronto-Danforth. This is a busy stretch of O'Connor Drive which, combined with the sections west of Coxwell, connects many residential neighbourhoods in East York and multiple communities in East Toronto.

In recent years more young families have moved to the area and local residents have raised concerns about the speed of traffic on O'Connor Drive. The recent death of a senior struck further west at Pape and O'Connor is a stark reminder that lowering vehicle speeds can be life-saving.
Staff recommended
Councillor Brad Bradford, seconded by Councillor Paula Fletcher, recommends that: 1. City Council reduce the speed limit along the following roadway from 50 kilometres per hour to 40 kilometres per hour: a. O'Connor Drive from Coxwell Avenue to St Clair Avenue East. 2. City Council direct the General Manager, Transportation Services, to install relevant speed limit signage along the roadway outlined in Recommendation 1 above.
