City Council request the Executive Director, Corporate Real Estate Management, in consultation with the General Manager, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, to work with the North York Harvest Food Bank to negotiate a shared space arrangement with the Food Bank on site at the Lawrence Heights Community Centre.

The North York Harvest Food Bank provides critical food bank services to underserved communities in the northern half of the City of Toronto, including Lawrence Heights. The Food Bank has struggled to find space that would allow them to operate a full-service food bank and community hub, a vital need in the Lawrence Heights community. The Lawrence Heights Community Centre is the ideal space for a centralized food hub that will provide vital emergency food supports, increase local food literacy, address food insecurity, and reduce social isolation through community building.

I request that Corporate Real Estate Management and Parks, Forestry and Recreation staff work expeditiously with the North York Harvest Food Bank to secure a space in the Lawrence Heights Community Centre.
