City Council on June 15 and 16, 2022, adopted the following: 1. City Council request the General Manager, Parks, Forestry, and Recreation to continue to work with Waterfront Toronto on the completion of 51 Commissioners Street (Fire Hall 30) as planned, and to coordinate with the local Councillor in consulting the community on the future public use of the building.

The former Fire Hall 30 at 51 Commissioners Street is a designated heritage resource and will be repurposed for public use as a central hub within River Park North as part of the Port Lands Flood Protection project. Work on the Fire Hall and surrounding park is being designed and delivered by Waterfront Toronto, in accordance with the direction of the City Council-endorsed Villiers Island Precinct Plan. City Planning has completed the Site Plan Control Application review of the proposal for the Fire Hall and a Notice of Approval Conditions has been prepared and is ready for issuance.

Although the Notice of Approval Conditions does not have any direct bearing on the use of the building, City staff (Parks Forestry and Recreation) have committed to working with Waterfront Toronto and coordinating with the local Councillor to consult with the community on the public use of the building. 51 Commissioners/Old Firehall will include public washrooms and other amenity spaces. This Motion is urgent as Waterfront Toronto and Parks Forestry and Recreation would like to ensure the building is fully functional for the opening of River Park North and in order to meet that deadline the Notice of Approval Conditions/Site Plan Control Application must be approved before the last meeting of Council. City Planning is ready to issue the Notice of Approval Conditions/Site Plan Control Application with the proviso that proper community consultation will take place following these approvals.

City Council request the General Manager, Parks, Forestry, and Recreation to continue to work with Waterfront Toronto on the completion of 51 Commissioners Street (Fire Hall 30) as planned, and to coordinate with the local Councillor in consulting the community on the future public use of the building.
