On the agenda

As the city filed it

Residents on Kirknewton Road have contacted my office to raise concerns regarding excessive vehicle speeds and dangerous driving on their street. Kirknewton Road is a residential street, running south from Eglinton Avenue West, where people walk and cycle to nearby schools, businesses, and parks. Yet speeding drivers continue to impact the safety and livability of the neighbourhood. In response to these concerns, my office conducted a neighbourhood survey that was hand-delivered to homes.

The survey confirmed strong neighbourhood support for installing speed humps as a traffic calming measure to reduce vehicle speeds. Through conversations with residents while door-knocking on Kirknewton Road, I heard directly about ongoing concerns regarding excessive vehicle speeds and further support for traffic calming measures that would make the street safer for all residents. Unfortunately, I witnessed many drivers choosing to speed while I was at doors with residents. Given clear community support and ongoing traffic safety issues, I recommend installing speed humps on Kirknewton Road to reduce speeding and improve road safety for all.
