Selina Young, Director, Indigenous Affairs Office, City of Toronto, will give an update on the Indigenous Affairs Office.

Filling Vacancies in Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee Membership
The Co-Chairs, Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee, will lead a discussion on approaches for filling vacancies on the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee. This is a follow-up of the discussion that took place at the previous meeting in April 2021 on Item AA10.2.
The Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee recommends to the Executive Committee that: 1. City Council amend the Terms of Reference of the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee to provide that the public members are to be members of Aboriginal organizations and the community at large, so that Section B.1. and 2. of the Terms of Reference read as follows: B. Composition and Term 1. The Advisory Committee is composed of 25 members with one Member of City Council. With the exception of the Member of City Council, Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee members are representatives of Aboriginal organizations and of the community at large. 2. Members are appointed by City Council on recommendation of the Civic Appointments Committee for public members and Striking Committee for the Member of City Council. 2. City Council request the Director, Indigenous Affairs Office, in consultation with the Co-Chairs of the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee, to recruit members in order to fill all existing vacancies on the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee as soon as practicable. 3. City Council request the Director, Indigenous Affairs Office, to invite the registered presenters on Item AA13.2 to apply for positions on the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee, in a process open to the community at large; and to alert all members of the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee once the recruitment process is open for public applications to help ensure Indigenous communities member representatives are aware of this opportunity and deadlines for application. 4. City Council request the City Clerk, in consultation with the Indigenous Affairs Office and the City Manager's Office, to report to the first meeting in 2022 of the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee on options for a revised public appointments process for the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee for the 2022-2026 Council Term.

Gary Miedema, Project Manager, Heritage Planning Services, City Planning, will give a presentation on the Indigenous Heritage Engagement Project.
The Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee: 1. Deferred consideration of the item until the October 5, 2021 meeting of the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee.

Toronto Zoo Request for Support
Dolf DeJong, Chief Executive Officer, Toronto Zoo, will discuss potential changes to serve communities, and seek feedback from Committee members on how best to engage Indigenous communities to determine the path going forward.

Proposed Northwest Cultural Trail
Al Rezoski, Manager, Community Planning, North York District, City Planning, will give a presentation on the Proposed Northwest Cultural Trail. The proposed Northwest Cultural Trail focuses on promoting Indigenous and Black heritage landscapes and cultural attractions, improving access to Neighbourhood Improvement Areas and encouraging active transportation. City Planning is seeking ideas from the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee to add public art and programming along the trail.
The Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee: 1. Requested the Chief Planner and Executive Director, City Planning, to incorporate the Committee's feedback into the work on the proposed Northwest Cultural Trail.

Use of Indigenous-Themed Sports Team Names and Logos in City Facilities
Kevin Carr, Interim Director, Client and Business Services, Parks, Forestry and Recreation, will provide an update and seek guidance from the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee on Parks, Forestry and Recreation 's response to date and proposed next steps on the use of Indigenous-themed team names and logos in City facilities. Parks, Forestry and Recreation is committed to promoting a positive and inclusive experience in our facilities and protecting the dignity and well-being of Indigenous communities.

New Tools for Protecting Local Culture
Cheryl Blackman, Interim General Manager, Economic Development and Culture, will give a presentation on the New Tools for Protecting Local Culture. This is the first presentation to a Toronto City Council advisory committee on this exploratory work. Through this presentation, Economic Development and Culture aims to hear advice from the Aboriginal Affairs Advisory Committee early in the process.
