The purpose of this report is to propose meeting schedules for the Toronto Zoo Board of Management and its Committees for 2020.
The Board of Management of the Toronto Zoo approved the following meeting dates for the Board of Management of the Toronto Zoo and its Committees for 2020: 1. Board of Management: a. Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. at the Toronto Zoo; b. Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Toronto Zoo; c. Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Toronto Zoo; d. Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall; e. Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 2:00 pm. at the Toronto Zoo; and f. Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall. 2. Policy and Finance Committee: a. Thursday, May 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Toronto Zoo; b. Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Toronto Zoo; and c. 2020-2025 Toronto Zoo Strategic Plan
Toronto Zoo staff have been working with Zoo Advisors to develop a new 5 year Strategic Plan for the Toronto Zoo. Consultations have been extensive both internally and with the community, including stakeholders. The purpose of this report is to seek approval from the Board for the new plan. After approval an Action Plan for implementation will be developed to operationalize it.

This report outlines the proposed plan and expenditures related to the 2020 advertising campaign as provided for in the Operating Budget. In 2019, the Strategic Communications efforts contributed to the many successes of the Zoo, including the 8% increase in year over year attendance. We will build on this success in 2020 with our paid advertising which will complement the public relations, events, corporate/group events, community outreach and digital strategy to ensure we are reaching our target audiences in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.

Volunteering and Engagement Report 2019
The purpose of this report is to review and update the Board of Management on the activities of the Volunteering and Engagement Unit for the year 2019. The volunteer team consists of Year-Round Volunteers, Summer Volunteers, Volunteer Hosts, Wildlife Health Centre Volunteers, and Zoo Ambassador Student Volunteers. All volunteers support the Zoo's educational programs by interacting with guests, helping to raise public awareness and involvement in conservation, interpreting the zoogeographic and ecological relationships of the animal and plant kingdoms, and enhancing the experience of each Toronto Zoo guest with whom they come in contact. In 2019, a team of 431 volunteers donated 39,088 hours of their time to the Toronto Zoo reaching an estimated 1,033,138 people.

Learning and Engagement Programs Report 2019
This report focuses on the primary activities and achievements of the Learning and Engagement Branch at the Toronto Zoo for the year 2019. Learning and Engagement oversees a wide variety of different programs throughout the year that support key components of the Strategic Plan and further educational goals. These include school program offerings and teacher resources, as well as a roster of public programs for a variety of audiences/ages and summer camps. Overall program participation and revenues in 2019 were the highest on record with revenue up 9.4% over 2018, generating overall $1,140,584 and participation up by 2.9% over the preceding year. Bookings for fee-based school programs increased by 2.3% over 2018, marking the strongest year on record. Core revenue generating programs such as Bush Camp, Zoo Camp, Zoo School, and the Valentine's adult program, continue to show strong participation and revenue generation. Also, included is a summary of curatorial outreach programs which are administered by the Wildlife and Science Division.

2020 Exempt Staff Compensation
The purpose of this report is to recommend adjustments to the Exempt Staff Compensation Plan for 2020. Each year the Board has approved salary increases incorporating market adjustments and merit increases for exempt staff based on the Zoo's performance management process. The pay-for-performance model, which has been in place since 2001, provides a means of evaluating our exempt staff, improved accountability, and a greater incentive to achieve a higher level of performance. The City of Toronto has a similar pay for performance exempt staff compensation model.
The Toronto Zoo Board of Management: 1. Approved the exempt compensation policy as follows: a. The market adjustment for 2020 be set at 1.25% for both the exempt salary grades and salaries; and b. The performance-based (merit) pay policy for exempt staff progressing through their respective salary ranges (minimum salary to maximum salary), which is based on exempt staff 2019 goals and performance, be continued. 2. Approved the recommendations contained in the Confidential Attachment 1 to this report (January 21, 2020) from the Senior Director, Corporate Projects and Human Resources, Toronto Zoo. 3. Directed that the information in Confidential Attachment 1 to this report (January 21, 2020) from the Senior Director, Corporate Projects and Human Resources, Toronto Zoo, is to remain confidential in its entirety as it contains information about labour relations/employee negotiations.
