Councillor Pasternak would like to support a community request to install a commemorative stone in Earl Bales Park. The plaque on the stone will recognize the efforts and sacrifices of everyone who fought fascism during WWII (1939-1945). The Second World War was a seven-year-long battle against fascism, a threat spreading quickly through Europe and beyond. It took enormous sacrifices from Allied countries, which included Canada, to defeat the Axis powers that jeopardized democratic societies.

The year 2020 marks the 75th anniversary since the defeat of the Axis powers. In light of this, it is vital to uphold the values of liberty, equality and justice. Once again we must commemorate fallen warriors and civilians in addition to those who survived in the fight for our freedom.
