The decision

2019-01-15 · Toronto and East York Community Council · adopted

As filed

The Toronto and East York Community Council: 1. Directed Transportation Services staff to fully synchronize the traffic control signals at the Avenue Road and Chaplin Crescent intersection with the traffic control signals at the Avenue Road and Kay Gardiner Beltline Trail intersection.

On the agenda

As the city filed it

The intersection of Avenue Road and Chaplin Crescent has been identified to my office by residents as very confusing for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. It has caused many near-misses, including a few recent collisions, due to two traffic control signals in close proximity to each other. The pushbutton activated traffic control signal at the Kay Gardiner Beltline Trail, some 87m south of Chaplin and Avenue, was installed to allow for a safe crossing for users of the Beltline trail.

However, the two sets of traffic control signals have not yet been fully synchronized. I am requesting Transportation Services synchronize the traffic control signals at Avenue Road and Chaplin Crescent with the ones on Avenue Road and the Kay Gardiner Beltline Trail, to minimize any confusion about the functioning of the signals and make these two intersections safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

Staff recommended

Councillor Josh Matlow recommends that: 1. That Toronto and East York Community Council direct Transportation Services staff fully synchronize the traffic control signals at the Avenue Road and Chaplin Crescent intersection with the traffic control signals at the Avenue Road and Kay Gardiner Beltline Trail intersection.
