City Council on December 13, 14 and 15, 2023, adopted the following: 1. City Council direct the Executive Director, Corporate Real Estate Management to report back to Economic and Community Development Committee by the second quarter of 2024 on options for alternative suitable sites for Applegrove Community Complex, consistent with Items 2020.EC16.2 and 2020.TE16.5, including acquisition costs and approximate capital costs to ensure the site can accommodate programmatic needs.

Applegrove Community Complex is a 7,911 square feet Association of Community Centres site which has served the Greenwood-Coxwell area since 1979. Applegrove Community Complex offers community development, family and child, child and youth and adult programming. Currently situated in Duke of Connaught School their lease with the Toronto District School Board has been in overhold since 2013. In 2020 City Council directed staff to look at a number of options for a permanent site, but cost, incompatible timelines and other issues continue to hamper this.

City Staff have committed to a renewed search for a permanent home and this motion would empower them to begin immediately. Reason for Urgency: Applegrove Community Complex does not have a long term site secured, necessitating immediate work by city staff to prevent any potential opportunities being lost because of delay.

Councillor Paula Fletcher, seconded by Councillor Paul Ainslie, recommends that: 1. City Council direct the Executive Director, Corporate Real Estate Management to report back to Economic and Community Development Committee by the second quarter of 2024 on options for alternative suitable sites for Applegrove Community Complex, consistent with 2020.EC16.2 and 2020.TE16.5, including acquisition costs and approximate capital costs to ensure the site can accommodate programmatic needs.
