Silent Nights and Peaceful Days - Providing relief to residents from Metrolinx’s Whistle Sounding at Manse Road Rail Crossing on the Lakeshore East Corridor - by Councillor Jennifer McKelvie, seconded by Councillor Paula Fletcher

The train whistles are disruptive and alarming for local residents, and during peak commuting times, is nearly constant. Metrolinx has requested the City of Toronto to implement safety improvements related to signage, lighting and removal of brush to improve the safety of their crossing. City staff are working as quickly as possible to conduct this work on behalf of Metrolinx. Recognizing the immense disturbance the whistles have on the community, this motion is to request that Metrolinx post a safety worker 24/7 at the crossing, if necessary, to observe and ensure safety so that the whistles can stop. This would provide relief to the community from the disruptive whistle noise as the City of Toronto works through Metrolinx's requests. The holidays are coming, and residents deserve silent nights and peaceful days with their family. Reason for Urgency: Metrolinx has initiated whistles at the Manse Road Rail Crossing and residents require relief from the noise disruption.

3. City Council delegate all necessary authorities to the City Manager to approve and implement safety measures requested by Metrolinx for their at-grade crossing on Manse Road as quickly as possible.
