The Toronto and East York Community Council: 1. Reduced the speed limit on Dufferin Street, between Springhurst Avenue and Queen Street West from 50 kilometres per hour to 40 kilometres per hour. 2. Reduced the speed limit on Dufferin Street, between Springhurst Avenue and the south of end of Dufferin Street from 50 kilometres per hour to 30 kilometres per hour.

North of Queen Street West, the speed limit was previously reduced to 40 km/h: https://secure.toronto.ca/council/agenda-item.do?item=2019.TE2.55 Vision Zero 2.0 states that higher vehicle speeds contribute to higher risk of serious injuries and fatalities by reducing driver reaction time, increasing the vehicle stopping distance, and inflicting more severe blunt force trauma on victims upon impact.

Staff recommended

Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik and Councillor Gord Perks recommend that: 1. Toronto and East York Community Council reduce the speed limit on Dufferin Street, between Springhurst Avenue and Queen Street West from 50 km/h to 40 km/h. 2. Toronto and East York Community Council reduce the speed limit between Springhurst Avenue and the south of end of Dufferin Street from 50 km/h to 30 km/h on Dufferin Street.
