On the agenda
As the city filed it
I am writing to respectfully request the placement of a temporary second school crossing guard at the intersection of Kingston Road and McCowan Road/Cathedral Bluffs Drive. The school parent community has continued to raise serious concerns about safety at this intersection. The location is immediately adjacent to a major six-lane section of Kingston Road, with high vehicle speeds, complex turning movements, and challenging sightlines.

Parents and school staff report that driver behaviour, including aggressive driving and failure to yield, further increases the risk for children and families walking to and from school. Given these ongoing concerns, and in light of the unique design and operating conditions at this intersection, I am requesting that Scarborough Community Council override the technical analysis and authorize the placement of a temporary second school crossing guard at Kingston Road and McCowan Road/Cathedral Bluffs Drive until December 31, 2026. This temporary measure would provide an important layer of protection for students and families while longer term safety and design improvements are explored. Thank you for your consideration of this request. I would be pleased to work with Transportation Services staff, the school, and the wider community to support implementation and any further review that may be required.
