Sign Variance Committee to decide appeal of Chief Building Official's refusal of wall signs for self-storage facility at Caledonia Park Road

Ward 9, Davenport

The Sign Variance Committee will hear an appeal of the Chief Building Official's rejection of two proposed wall signs for a self-storage facility at 70 Caledonia Park Road. The CBO refused the applicant's proposal but approved different signs with additional conditions instead. One party to the original hearing has appealed that decision, and the committee will conduct a fresh review to determine whether the applicant's original proposal or the CBO's alternative meets the city's sign variance criteria.

How to act

Residents in the area may have been part of the original hearing or appeal; the meeting date and deputation deadlines would be on the city agenda.

The journey

Fri, Sep 18 · Sign Variance Committee · scheduled, not yet heard
Why is this story here?
ContainedA single-site sign variance for one property. The decision is binding for this location but does not set precedent affecting future sign variances citywide, as each variance is evaluated individually against the eight mandatory criteria. Reversible if the applicant reapplies with a different proposal.Invisible to residentsThis is a sign variance for a commercial self-storage facility. No resident's commute, rent, street safety, or daily access is affected by whether two wall signs meet variance criteria. The decision touches only the property owner and immediate visual conditions at one industrial address.

Stories are ordered by how much weight a decision carries and how directly it reaches daily life. They rise as a decision date approaches and fall as they age.
